Beginning as a home-based mission in 2002, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church was indeed a flock determined to follow our Lord. Originally meeting Sunday evening in homes with visiting pastors, by spring of 2004 the church was worshipping Sunday mornings at a rented location near Thompson Road in Slidell. Reverend Robert Aumann served as a fervent encourager and beloved pastor for over 14 years. The sprit of Good Shepherd's congregation remains one of his many legacies. A hallmark of this budding mission church was friendly acceptance and welcoming hospitality, with a meal after Sunday service.
Hurricane Katrina disrupted lives in August 2005, damaging the physical location but not the determination of Good Shepherd members. Again, with worship support from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Picayune MS, Slidell area home gatherings were resumed. A temporary worship location was found at Tammany Twirlers Square and Round Dance Clubhouse beginning in November 2005 on Sunday mornings.
Available land was discovered adjacent to the Twirlers and, with the help of the remarkable "Laborers for Christ team" a new physical building was planted.
Services began August 2009 at 35300 Home Estate Drive. Welcoming guest pastors provided messages and guidance. We continue our mission of "touching lives through hearts and hands, with the love of Jesus. We welcome "Lost Sheep"!
